• What are the advantages of having diversity in a collaborative learning environment?
The definition of diversity is showing a variety. Stop and imagine how different and boring the world would be if everyone was exactly the same. The idea of having diversity in the learning is not only exciting but also expected. When you put several different people from different ethical back grounds, areas of the country, and from multiple age groups in the same area there is sure to be a difference of opinion, and with this you will automatically have diversity. If everyone had the same opinion on all things there would be no debate, or need for laws or codes of conduct. Diversity is what makes life interesting.
• How might factors such as diversity, attitude, learning, and work styles affect collaboration?
As long as everyone in the learning environment can conduct themselves in a manner that is acceptable by society and the school then diversity will help the situation/conversation. Attitude can affect everything in different ways, if someone in the group has a bad attitude then you’re going to have issues, this could also slow progress for the class as a whole. Learning and work styles shouldn’t affect collaboration simply because the purpose of the OLS is so that students have the ability to learn the way that is best for them. Chapter 4 in our books will help enlighten you to your best form of learning and help you to discover whether or not you have a learning disability that hasn’t been diagnosed yet.
• How does personal responsibility influence the work and success of a group?
