In my family it was just a little different growing up in Reading, PA. Everything we had it felt like more than what anyone else had, but in reality we did have much. I don’t know if you ever seen or heard of Oakdale homes own by Oakdale Mills in Jamestown NC. I would love to take you there sometime. Well most of the homes seem like they were build in a day, but our home seem like it was build in five hours literally. We had a room called the backroom and a middle room mommy and daddy room and a front with kitchen, but it was home. I can say this in growing up I never really live in the projects even though we didn’t have much and I thought the projects was the worst but it wasn’t. So my mind set of how I perceived things were a little different growing up. I never really looked at black or white or Indians, Latinos, Hispanic differently because they were all in my neighborhood. As a kid everything I did involve either a white kid or Spanish kid. In football I was a running back my friend Scotty was the quarterback who happen to be white, but he was the best quarterback in all of football because we never lost a game. I guess you could say I see culture and family a little different than some people see it. I enjoyed the football team and basketball team it was more than just a family to me. It was also about growing up learning each other culture and how things were done. Some of us did more than just play sports together we shared our value and our beliefs together. Some things we talked about were positive and some were negative. For instance, my friend Carlos was Hispanic and his mother believe that we should never wear hats in the house and always come to the table dressed up. I mean a nice shirt and pants sometimes a necktie on before you eat. I thought this was a little crazy, but it was how Mrs. Hector did things at their home and I respected that as a child.
