Welcome from the Head Teacher
Thank you for downloading/requesting the application pack for the post of
Pastoral Coordinator.
Walkden High School is a wonderful community; brilliant, hard-working students,
committed staff, and amazingly supportive parents.
Our school is an exciting and stimulating place to work and learn. I truly believe
that our successes are down to a strong team of people working together to
create a school that is passionate about its staff and students’ achievements.
I take great pride in recruiting the best possible individuals to work in our school.
We want hardworking, committed, dynamic and vibrant staff who feel that they
can make a real difference to our school and our students. We want people with
ideas and the bravery to be creative in their work, who enjoy being part of a
child’s educational experience.
In 2014, our students achieved 55% 5 A*-C including English and Maths. 67% C+ in
English and 72% C+ in Maths. These figures are strong given the volatility in grade
boundaries and standards over the last two to three years but we are working to
make them even better.
As you will know in October 2013 we were inspected by OFSTED and gained a
‘Requires Improvement’ grading due to our poor GCSE performance in 2012. The
report is clear that we are on the cusp of Good with our achievement and
progress measure all moving in a positive direction. What really matters now is how
we respond. You will arrive at Walkden at a critical time in its development and
will be part of the team of staff who will shape Walkden into the excellent school it
clearly has the potential to be.
