Nutrine confectionery company Ltd. is the flagship of the NUTRINE group of companies, spanning diverse products and services like Confectionery, Chewing-gums, fruit bars, granites, hire purchase and leasing, transportation etc. It was founded in 1952, by Shri B. Venkatarama Reddy. From a small-scale unit manufacturing only candies in the early 60's, Nutrine confectionery has grown to be a multi-product, multi-market giant and continues to be the single largest manufacturer of confectionery and toffees in India since 1980.
In june 2006, Rs 180-crore Nutrine Confectionery Co Pvt Ltd was acquired by Godrej Foods and Beverages. The deal involved takeover of the brand and all the company's assets. The company has the capacity to produce approximately 2,000 tonnes of confectionery a year. Around 1,350 employees of the company will come under the new management. Godrej Foods' portfolio includes fruit drinks, edible oil and tea and now, confectionery.
The organised market for confectionery, chocolates cand gums is around Rs 1,600 crore of which the sugar-boiled confectionery segment is Rs 750 crore, in which Nutrine leads. Almost 80 per cent of this market comprises products at the 50-paise price point. Nutrine sold its 1,000 tonnes-a-month biscuits business to Sara Lee around eight years ago and Britannia subsequently acquired it.
Nutrine has a wide range of more than 72 varieties of candies, toffees, lozenges, Chewing-gums, instant foods Dehydrated fruit bars of Mango, Banana, Papaya, Guava, fruit pulp, processed fruits etc. Its various products are Kokanaka cookies / Elaichi cookies, Mahalacto, Wild koffy, Chocolate eclairs, Aam ras, Nutrine gold, Gulkhand, Lolli pop coolers, Nutrine naturo fruit bars etc. Nutrine also exports confectionery, gums and fruit bars to Canada, Malaysia, Mauritius, Myanmar, New Zealand, Nepal, Norway, Saudi Arabia, Singapore and Sri Lanka.
