1.1 - Explain what it means to have a duty of care in own work role


I have a duty of care to service users in the community to provide the best care possible in order to completely meet all of their needs. I must ensure service user safety at all times by following guidelines that have been put in place by governing bodies and by my employer. I have a duty of care to ensure that I attend and complete all training opportunities so that my knowledge and skills are kept up to date to ensure service user safety and safety for myself.


1.2 - Explain how duty of care contributes to the safeguarding and protection of individuals


Duty of care ensures that service users are protected from harm and are kept safe from abuse. My duty of care is to report and record all relevant information related to unprofessional conduct or behaviour that may contribute to abuse.


Learning outcome 2 - Know how to address conflicts or dilemmas that may arise between and individual’s rights and the duty of care


2.1 Describe potential conflicts or dilemmas that may arise between the duty of care and the individual’s rights


A service user may not wish to partake in personal cares, it is within their rights to refuse this and it is my duty of care to respect their wishes. The conflict with this decision would arise if the service user repeatedly declined personal cares on a daily basis,   had a pre-existing dermatitis or skin infection requiring treatment, bed sores or if the service user had soiled themselves.


2.2 Describe how to manage risks associated with conflicts or dilemmas between an individual’s rights and duty of care
