I have experienced a similar experienced; I was a Manger for a retail gas convenient Store and I was being promoted to a high volume store which would give me not only more salary but a higher commission, well the store I was taking over, was run by my mentor manger, so it was exciting for me to take her store. When I got to her store one policy is that when a manger leaves a store and another manager takes over you have to do a whole store inventory count in and count out. When I started counting the inventory it was going ok until I started counting the cooler, well the beer was fifteen hundred dollars short, when I brought this up to my mentor manger she said lets recount so we did and it was the same, I even went through all the invoices to make sure that they had been entered correctly and that they have all been entered. When we were done my mentor manager said don’t worry about the shortage I will buy merchandise with own money to cover the shortage, I ask her I do not understand, she replied that she will have one of our vendors bring some general merchandise in and it will show that department over and it will show the beverage department over. I went home and I thought about it and I did not feel comfortable, I went back the next day and told my mentor manager that this is against the way I was raised and I do not feel that it is a good business ethical decisions, she said she was doing it anyway. I decide to go to my supervisors and explained to him what was happening and that I have not sleep very good in the last couple of days and I do not want to start at this new store in this way, well he said he would check it out, than I was called in and I was suspended for two week with pay per investing of something that happen at my other store, but what was weird was I already gave the other store to another manager, well after the two weeks they decide to us the at will clause.
