Children Act 1989 - First law of children act. First acknowledgement of children's rights. Parents should care for their children if possible. Practitioners should work in partnership with parents. The welfare of children is paramount. Children's views and opinions should be considered in regard to matters that affect them.
Children Act 2004 - As a result of 'Every child matters' and produced after the murder of Victoria Climbie. Be healthy. Stay safe. Enjoy and achieve. Make positive contribution. Achieve economic well-being.
Childcare Act 2006 - This introduced the EYFS framework in England, for children 0-5 years and sets out the statutory assessment carried out by Ofsted.
Equality Act 2010 - Ensures all people are protected from discrimination regardless of age, gender, race, religion, beliefs, sexual orientation or disability.
Children & Families Act 2014 - Increased protection for vulnerable children, support for separating parents, children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and help for parents to balance work and family life. Also includes changes to the adoption system and reforms for children in care.
Data Protection Act 1998 - Ensures that information is shared appropriately, records are secured securely, and that personal & confidential information is not passed on unless written consent is provided.
