MAJOR DUTIES: Outpatient Coder
Performs a variety of technically complex duties involved with auditing, reviewing, and analyzing medical data and medical records. Ensure facility compliance with applicable Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organization (JCAHO) standards and guideline which pertain to medical record reviews and information management. Compiles, analyzes, maintains and reports statistical medical data for purposes of quality improvement. Perform quality assurance review of the medical data in the Ambulatory Data System (ADS). Compares provider designated diagnoses, clinical procedures, and disposition instructions on the ADS encounter forms with entries in medical records to determine the accuracy of ADS data. Utilizes medical knowledge in a wide range of specialties to determine if the medical records accurately reflect the medical information coded on the encounter forms. Compiles and analyzes statistics on accuracy of ADS data within individual specialties and clinics. Develop trend analysis for each clinic and globally for the organization. Provide feedback on errors to individual providers and clinics, assisting them with ways to improve their input. Develop recurring quality improvement reports for distribution within the command. Ensures that JCAHO information management standards on data accuracy are met in regards to ADS data. Coordinates with numerous clinical and administrative elements within the command to accomplish auditing, reporting
and quality improvement task. Use various computer application programs (word processing, spreadsheet, database and graphics) to prepare correspondence, reports, charts and graphs.
