Part Time Jobs for Students
Nowadays, many students have part time jobs while they are studying in high school. If we go to the supermarkets, restaurants or fast food outlets we are often served by teenagers who have changed out of their school uniforms and put on their work clothes. Some people feel that students should only be concentrating on their studies but part time jobs are great for students. They learn many valuable things at work that they do not learn at school and they are better prepared when it is time for them to join the work force as full time employees.
There is a lot of knowledge students can gain and skills they can learn by having part time jobs. Firstly, students learn the value of money by having to earn it before they spend it. If they are spending their own money, rather than their parents, they think more about whether their purchases are worthwhile. Secondly, students learn to communicate with a wide range of people of different ages, different backgrounds and in different situations. This skill is invaluable in life. Furthermore, students learn the importance of having a positive outlook and a good attitude. This is essential in the workplace and some students improve their attitude at school because of this.
Students who have worked at part time jobs are better prepared when it comes time for them to take on full time jobs. They already know what the world of work is like so they will have realistic expectations. They will also be more confident as they know they have successfully managed part time work. They have learnt what it is like to have responsibilities and they will already know what kind of work they are suited to or enjoy. On the other hand, they may also know what type of work they do not enjoy and this can guide them in making career choices. People with work experience are more desirable employees than those that still have all the basics to learn.
