St. Francis of Assisi also known to his family as Giovanni Francesco di Bernardone was a Catholic deacon and the founder of the Order of Friars Minor, more commonly known as the Franciscan Order. In his written prayer entitled “Peace Prayer”, we can really tell how he and his whole soul dedicated everything that he can offer to serve our dear Lord. In the line “Make me an instrument of your peace”, it’s very evident that he was very willing to submit his own life to glorify God. The prayer has the message of peace not just to those who pray it but also to those who don’t believe in saying prayers.
I personally can relate this peace prayer to what is happening here in Mindanao. The land has been seeking for peace all its life and yet it hasn’t found any that would satisfy its tenants hunger for a more livable, war-free haven. And I could just wish that there will be a reincarnated St. Francis of Assisi to passionately bow before the good Lord and ask for a lifetime peace. The prayer don’t just had its purpose on asking God for anything but it also tries to tell other people to be selfless, to be faithful, to be hopeful, and to find every light and joy to the most unbelievable situation that they could possibly be. To be selfless, one must sacrifice his own happiness for the sake of many others. As it said in the prayer; for it is in giving, that we receive. It is not how happy have you become; it’s how many have been very happy because of you.
