101 The Basics of Christianity
My Personal Testimonial of Salvation
I was born in New Orleans Louisiana in 1963. I grew up going to Bible school every Sunday. Constantly learning the stories of the heroes in the Bible and building a belief system in Christianity. Like many other kids, as I recalled, I reached a period in my life between the ages of 12 – 21, my religious beliefs of theology was not important. I knew of Christ but I did not pursue a personal relationship with him until 1996. As a kid I gravitated toward the story of King Solomon. Learning that God gave Solomon riches beyond his wildest dreams because he had asked for wisdom instead of riches was very fascinating. I grew up in a very poor environment. At the age of 12 or 13 I thought I could get God to bless me just as he did for Solomon. Life had gotten so unbearable living in poverty, I found myself on my knees in tears begging God to deliver me and my family from the struggles of inner-city poverty. I prayed and asked God for wisdom, knowing that I wanted the blessing of Solomon. I wanted wealth so that me and my brothers and sisters could escape being poor. God did not answer when I wanted him to. He waited until I was mature and chasing after him 100 percent before the manifestation of my prayer was fulfilled. I was a kid and not ready for what God had for me. “A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels.” (Proverbs 1:5).
I took the long road to discovering God’s goodness and mercies. In 1983 I met a young lady named Princess Jones. She would someday change my life. This young lady invited me to church doing the week and I occasionally accepted her invitation. Her church service was Pentecostal and very different from the United Methodist Church that I attended.
