Personal Values at Kudler Fine Foods
The purpose of this paper is to reflect on my values from the Williams Institute Ethics Awareness Inventory (EAI) self-assessment and to compare same to those at Kudler Fine Foods. The ethical profile identified as most closely aligned with my character will be compared to that of Kathy Kudler, the founder of Kudler Fine Foods.
The EAI (The Williams Institute, 2008) allows students to guide an exploration of ethical perspectives and decision making. This helps identify one of four ethical perspectives individuals tend to use when making personal ethical decisions along with a simple and effective process for making ethical decisions. This can be contrasted to how one may approach an ethical situation beyond the hypothetical to real –world application and self-reflection. A series of questions are asked with answers required for most and least in agreement with for each of them. The questions were related to ethical standards, morals, character, and societal views. The answers are scored to correlate with one of four ethical profiles; character, obligation, results, and equity.
My ethical profile according to the EAI was that of character. I had no scores close to that of the character category and was assessed to be least associated with that of equity. The ethical perspective described in the inventory is based on what it is good to be, rather than what it is good to do. Examination of an individual’s character would look beyond his or her actions when considering if these would be judged as ethical. The quality of an individual’s character is directly related to the consistency of his or her efforts to be a morally good person. Ethics relies on sound moral judgments based on honesty, wisdom, and integrity.
