At Frances House we ensure that each child develops at their own pace and develop a sense of consistency and routine in their lives, by doing this we are aiming to achieve and maintain self-discipline, pride, self-esteem and to encourage and ultimately feel trust and respect for themselves and others. The children will commit and stick with goals and plans more successfully if they have been involved and the plans are around their choices and ideas
Observations are a good way to identify the needs of children, at Frances House we have a staff team that are committed to working with Young people, to encourage them to express themselves freely and positively and to and assist them to overcome previous traumas in their lives. Young people are actively encouraged to discuss their needs and feelings openly. We believe that the involvement of all concerned with the young person’s well-being, most importantly the involvement of the young people themselves, is of paramount importance in facilitating and achieving our goals. We recognise the importance of treating each young person as an important and respected member of a “family unit”, whilst at the same time recognising their individual personality and needs. Asking other people that have known the child in different contexts and throughout their lives is very useful information and people have different areas of specialism to bring forward to help the assessment.
It is important to work with others to assess the needs of children. That way if all agencies are working together with the child’s needs in mind this will only have a positive effect on the child’s learning.
We believe that the involvement of everybody concerned with the young person’s well-being, most importantly the involvement of the young people themselves, is of paramount importance in facilitating and achieving our aims.
