Police History Paper
The United States has a very strong federal and state policy system. America has a rich police history. There have been a lot of impacts in the American policing system through the years. The criminal justice system has different agencies that cover federal and state. The relationship between federal and state can affect police practices.
Sir Robert Peel: Sir Robert Peel drafted Peelian principles which helped introduce modern policy. In 1829 Sir Robert Peel was able to establish a police force with ethical values included. This police force was named the Metropolitan Police Force. It was established to reduce crimes in London and to enforce the law. This idea of policing was a great success and became enforce though out the United Kingdom. There were a lot of issues in the United Kingdom and the United States with law enforcement. Sir Robert Peel stated there are nine elements to policing. These nine elements are still used today in the United Kingdom and the United States. The first principle is the basic reason police exist to prevent disorder and crime. The second principle is the police are able to perform their daily jobs is dependent of the public approval of police actions. The third principle is to secure public cooperation in observance of the laws, to maintain the respect of the public. The forth principle is the degree of public cooperation that can secured, will reduce consistently with the use of physical force. The fifth principle is the police preserve and seek the public support, by remaining impartial to the law. The sixth principle is the police need to use physical force only if necessary, to make sure the law is observe. This can only be used when advise, persuasion and warning is not enough.
