In many professions knowledge and abilities are a major requirement that can impact one’s career. Without professional knowledge and abilities success will not be achieved. Nowhere else is professional knowledge and abilities as critical as the health care field. In which one mistake can be a matter of life and death.

The Texas Board of Nursing is an organization that consists of mainly professionals in the nursing industry, with one or two members of the community known as a consumer member. “Our mission is to protect and promote the welfare of the people of Texas by ensuring that each person holding a license as a nurse in the State of Texas is competent to practice safely” (Texas Board of Nursing, mission statement). By regulating the practice of nursing and approving nursing education programs the Board can meet their mission.
“Acting in accordance with the highest standard of ethics, accountability, efficiency, effectiveness and openness, the Texas Boards of Nurses approaches its mission with a deep sense of purpose and responsibility and affirms that the regulation of nursing is a public and private trust” (Texas Board of Nursing Agency Philosophy). The responsibilities of the board include; licensing services, accreditation services, enforcement services, and information services. Licensing services include approving new nurses and renewing licenses, and accreditation services, includes regulating nursing schools.
