Inclusion is about involving my learners in relevant and understandable activities rather than excluding them for any reason either directly or indirectly during their time on Employment Zone. At induction to Employment Zone a Fast Track Assessment is carried out to establish if the learner has Literacy and Numeracy needs, the result will aid me in ensuring any activities/tasks set can be adapted and inclusive of their learning styles/needs. Sometimes learners have personal problems or they are unable to attend appointments or achieve goals in time agreed, it is my responsibility to arrange for them to attend at later appointments to catch up and receive extra support from myself or colleagues in achieving goals despite issues that may have arisen. It is also my responsibility to ensure that when learners are attending work shops delivered by myself or a colleague that learning styles and needs are taken into account and resources are made available to ensure all learners are engaging in and understand the same exercises. I usually assess a learners needs through discussion and asking the questions needed to gain an informative answer, for example ‘what were your main barriers when learning in school’, ‘did you enjoy learning in a classroom environment?’, ‘do you work well with others?’
Equality is about the rights of my learners to participate in Employment Zone and receive full unbiased and non judgemental advice and support regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation and age. I have learners of different race and ethnic origin where English is not their first language. At the induction the welcome brochure is provided in different languages so they can understand the Employment Zone without been left out. Diversity is about...
