Student Number: 2144/050514/58 Module One Section A Essay Description of my experience learning a language Acquisition of a second language as an adult can be challenging and both expensive, especially in a country where the language in question is not often spoken by the population, or the country in question is a developing one where access to learning materials are limited and often shared among a huge populace of students learning the language. This makes it more expensive and access to individual learning is almost difficult. In addition, second language acquisition compared to first language requires a lot of effort, determination, more focus, self-discipline and continuous practice both in oral and written aspect. My language acquisition of French was taught in a small village community school specifically for the language where it is mandatory for every staff and students to speak as a means of communication. Though, this form of learning was helpful to new learners like me to improve my theoretical study, however, it lacks limited number of adequate facilities that will cost students a fortune if they are to purchase them for personal use. I started French language immediately after my secondary school at the age of nineteen. This continued until I enrolled for a course at the university level and obtained a degree in Bachelor of Arts in French Language. Therefore, it took me about seven years in learning French language. During my acquisition, I travelled occasionally to neighbouring countries where French language is their official language and means of communication. My visits to these countries were predominantly to practise my speaking and listening skills. The main places I visited were schools, markets, post offices et al. These are place where I felt more relaxed to practice my speaking and listening skills. Other places I embarked upon to perfect my listening
