Theory Task 1
Describe what your role, responsibilities and boundaries would be as a teacher in terms of the teaching/training cycle.   Word count 300-500 words.

Below is a diagram that helps to illustrate my role, responsibilities and boundaries as a teacher/trainer in terms of the teaching/training cycle.   Although each phase of the cycle appears separate, in reality the individual processes tend to blend into one another.

Identifying needs and planning:
When planning the session, I must take into consideration the needs of both the students and the organisation.   Are my students disabled in any way, do they require additional assistant during the session.   Do they have any experiences they may be prepared to share with the group.   Is the subject part of a curriculum/syllabus or just adhoc training.   Once I have determined ‘what ‘ needs to be taught I should plan where to teach it.   I will need to consider what is realistic in terms of my environment and resources.   For example, group activities may not be achievable if I only have few students or a small teaching environment.   Also a practical based subject may not be suitable to be taught in a classroom.

Designing:

‘You will have professional boundaries within which to work and it’s important not to overstep these.’ (Gravells, 2010: 11) As a trainer I must remain professional, maintain confidentiality, and be aware of when the proverbial mark is being over-stepped.   I will have professional guidelines to adhere to in my place of employment and will need to consider what is realistic in terms of my environment and resources, for example, group activities may not be achievable if I have few students or a small teaching environment.   Also a practical based subject may not be suitable to be taught in a classroom.
