State the different assessment methods available and explain the ones you would use for your subject area, including reference to initial assessment. State the types of assessment records you would complete and explain why.

An initial discussion is completed questioning prior achievement and experience plus what they wish to achieve and how it will be of use. Literacy and Numeracy are tested by a short diagnostic, to ensure they have suitable level of competence to complete the portfolio evidence. It is vital to ascertain what they wish to achieve and how they wish to progress as if the content is not as expected it is unlikely they will complete the qualification. The initial assessment will then form the individual learning plan (ILP) for each learner. The Formative Assessment
is ongoing and identifies strengths and weaknesses with the student throughout the course, feedback should be provided through this process to help progression to the end goal.
Initial assessment, implemented before learning takes place through discussion; test; approved prior learning/experience etc identifies learner needs; preferred learning styles; and learning barriers. Without formal assessment these would be based on assumption
Assessments are used to determine a starting point, identify appropriate level of teaching, based on the conclusion, and provide a benchmark for measuring progress
Formative assessment occurring during learning is ongoing, using methods including observation; Q&A; discussion; project work; tests and feedback (this should encourage and motivate), identifying good and bad practice, enabling teachers to continually evaluate and develop sessions to meet learner needs....
