PTTLS UNIT 1
1.1 Summarise key aspects of legislation, regulatory requirements and codes of practice relating to own role and responsibilities.
It is extremely important as a tutor assessor that I understand what legal requirements I have to abide by so I can protect myself and fellow colleagues when leading activities in a classroom and also when delivering physical sessions, it is important to understand these legislations as a lot of accidents can happen in the classroom and during physical activities.
Health and Safety at work act (1974)
It is important that participants learn in a safe working environment, this is essential as my role as a Tutor/Assessor mainly includes leadership activities and there is a higher risk of injury and I am legally required to safeguard the welfare of all my participants. It is also important to check and report if there are any damages to equipment and then remove them from use and replace for further sessions, I also need to risk assess the surrounding environment as this could cause further damage to equipment or increase risk of injury to participants.
Equality and Diversity act (2010)
It is important to promote equality and diversity so all participants feel welcome and it does not lower their confidence or morale. In my role as a Tutor/Assessor I have to ensure that everyone is treated fairly and if any participants or member of staff feel like they aren’t having equal opportunities then there will be a meeting arranged to resolve this issue and if this doesn’t solve the problem then disciplinary action will be taken if necessary.
Safeguarding (Children and Vulnerable Adults)
I have the responsibility to make sure all participants are safe at all times throughout the course for example if I was teaching children outside and there was an unauthorised person on the premises, the actions I would take would be:
• go speak to the person directly and ask who they were and why they were there.
