Raving Eyes
I hovered over those lifeless eyes with a remorse that could eat me alive. I never imagined that Frank’s revenge for this girl would come to this. And much less, did I ever imagine that I would be involved. As I stared at the pool of blood under my feet, memories from a few minutes ago flashed back through my mind. Her relentless attempts to escape as Frank bashed the steak through her heart over and over again. She looked at me with those eyes, eyes so deep in despair that clawed at my conscience.
I dashed through the naked trees, panting, quivering, shivering, and feeling a thousand needles piercing through my back. I felt my heart beating so intensely, it almost made its way up my throat. My legs were ready to give up; telling me nowhere was ever going to be far enough, but my mind kept telling me to run faster. I kept choking up as flashbacks reeled through my mind. Her screams still echoed in my head and I couldn’t do anything to erase it from my memory. Three miles into the woods, I spotted a creek, sparkling under the moonlight. Dipping my hands on the edge, I watched the pure glistening water turn red. I was careful of every move I made, from the slight rip of a dry leaf to a mere gust of wind shaking a branch, would make me jump in exasperation. So concentrated in my own torturing thoughts, I became a victim of my own mind. Two nights of frequent self-haunting slowly passed. I fed on my own condemned thoughts since I dared not to move out of the barren cave I called my asylum. The brisk wind picked up her perfume off of my stained clothes and brushed her scent against my body causing a sudden terror to chill my skin, making it a permanent ghastly blue from the cold and the paranoia. Gazing out into the spine chilling emptiness of the night, I felt an innumerable amount of eyes starring back at me, burning on my soul. The outlines of big round eyes, deep in somber, along with a fixed stare that went right through me. Wings stretched out...
