YOUTH CRIMES AND OFFENCES: EFFECTIVENESS EARLY INTERVENTION PROGRAMMES IN THE UK AND WALES
Abstract
The purpose of the research study is to present an in-depth analysis and review on the current trends in youth crimes in UK, as well as to investigate the current UK intervention programs intended to reduce youth crime offences. The study also aims to analyse the effectiveness of these early intervention programs. The study is grounded on secondary research, collecting data from academic sources. Findings showed that UK is performing well in terms of reducing crime rates involving youths. Key youth crimes such as theft, violence against a person, burglary and robbery, were significantly reduced for the past years. However, drug abuse and drug-related crimes remained a primary concern. Early intervention programs instigated were proven to be effective including family-oriented, individual-based and community-based interventions. Likewise, reduction of youth crimes also posited implications for decision makers in terms of public awareness and education among youths. Conclusions and recommendations were provided.
