Born in Lincolnshire, England, in 1989. RJ's passion for art began at a young age. As a child she was surrounded by art and music, along with the beauty of the Lincolnshire landscape, inspiring her interest in fine art.
For many years of painting to a restricted form, RJ expanded, experimenting with abstract and expressionism in various mediums. Pushing her to expand her horizons and imagination to tap into new areas of painting she had not yet explored. There was an obvious freedom and personal expression with abstraction and expressionism, it was then that she really began to hone her craft.
She is deeply interested in the effects of colour, texture and the emotional response to strong composition. Most of RJ's paintings are done by using a pallet knife and paintbrush with acrylic and gouache, a touch of ink along with airbrush techniques.
By removing the representational and creating something that told a story without an observational subject was very exciting for RJ. It gave the onlooker the chance to engage with the painting and gauge their own views and imagery to provoke thoughts and feelings.
Today, RJ’s work is a bold mix of styles, ranging from sleek and contemporary to textured finish. This brings a subtle and elegant feel to her work through a unique balance of bold colour, composition and various textures. Textures are important to RJ and are seen in lots of her work.
RJ's inspiration comes from a variety of scenes but are mostly provoked using her vivid imagination prior to putting brush to canvas!
There is not a day that goes by when RJ doesn't think about painting. RJ once said that ''when viewing the world around you its like taking constant snap shots of works of art''. She has a strong sense of imagery in the real world and views composition in everyday life that most people would just ignore. RJ uses this ability in producing her paintings which gives them their bold and strong presence.
