ROLE OF CHEMISTRY IN GROWING WORLD POPULATION
Chemistry is the science[->0] of matter[->1], especially its properties, structure, composition, behavior, reactions[->2], interactions and the changes it undergoes.Chemistry is sometimes called "the central science[->3]" because it connects physics with other natural sciences[->4] such as astronomy[->5], geology and biology.Physics also studies matter, but physics is the science of quantities of space and matter, and laws governing them. Chemistry is a branch of physical science[->6] but not a branch of physics.However, chemistry utilizes physics[->7]. For example, chemistry uses quantities like energy[->8] and entropy[->9] in relation to the spontaneity[->10] of chemical processes[->11]. It also explains the structure and properties of matter as a consequence of the physical properties of chemical substances and their interactions. For example, steel[->12] is harder[->13] than iron because its atoms are bound together in a more rigid crystalline lattice[->14]; wood burns or undergoes rapid oxidation[->15] because it can react spontaneously with oxygen[->16] in a chemical reaction[->17] above a certain temperature[->18]; sugar and salt dissolve in water because their molecular/ionic properties are such that dissolution is preferred under the ambient conditions;The etymology of the word chemistry has been much disputed.
