Safeguarding
"Safeguarding is a term which is broader than ‘child protection’ and relates to the action the commission takes to promote the welfare of children and protect them from harm. Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. Safeguarding is defined in Working together to safeguard children 2013 as:
protecting children from maltreatment
preventing impairment of children’s health and development
ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care and
taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes". (www.gov.uk [09/10/15]).
Whistleblowing
"You’re a whistleblower if you’re a worker and you report certain types of wrongdoing. This will usually be something you’ve seen at work - though not always.
The wrongdoing you disclose must be in the public interest. This means it must affect others, eg the general public.
As a whistleblower you’re protected by law - you shouldn’t be treated unfairly or lose your job because you ‘blow the whistle’.
You can raise your concern at any time about an incident that happened in the past, is happening now, or you believe will happen in the near future". (www.gov.uk [09/10/15])
Case Confrence
"The Initial Child Protection Conference brings together family members (and the child where appropriate), supporters/advocates and those professionals most involved with the child and family following a S47 enquiry. Its purpose is to:
Bring together and analyse, in an inter-agency setting, the information that has been obtained about the child's developmental needs, and the parents' or carers' capacity to respond to these needs;
Ensure the child's safety and promote the child's health and development within the context of their wider family and environment;
Consider the evidence presented to the Conference and taking into account the child's present situation and information about...
