CT 298 (1.1)
PYSICAL
This can be any physical force to any part of the body which results in injury or pain to another person. This includes the way we may have had to restrain a service user or even down to the misuse of medication, giving above the amount required or not simply giving enough.

SEXUAL
This is involving a service user in some sort of sexual act that they have not consented too, the service user may lack the capacity to say what they want or don’t want, it and therefore feel coerced into participating in something that they are not comfortable with especially coming from someone who has power and authority over them.
• EMOTIONAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL
This is the use of threats, bullying, swearing and humiliating a service user in front of others, resulting in them being distressed, it involves not letting a service user express themselves and not giving privacy and dignity.

INSTITUTIONAL
This is the mistreatment to a service user from a group of people (instead of a single person) within an institution, and happens when the institution do not meet the needs of its service users.

FINACIAL
This is the theft of service user money and belongings or even getting the service user to buy expensive gifts for their carers when they have no concept of money and do it unknowingly to them.

SELF NEGLECT
This is when a service user doesn’t meet their own needs of feeding themselves, doing their own personal care, seeking medical advice if unwell due to them being able to or unable to do so.

NEGLECT BY OTHERS
The same as self - neglect but done by others, where it is not being done or not being done on a purpose and therefore causing distress.
