1 Understand what is required for competence in own work role
1.1 Describe the duties and responsibilities of own work role.
In my setting I am involved in planning meetings and I help with the weekly planning to help cover all the areas of learning. I help to set up in the morning and set up adult- led activities and carry them out. I have been given the opportunity to write in children’s daily dairies, pass information to parents about their child’s day also I have been given the opportunity to write observations on children.
I would prepare snack for the children at snack time this can be anything from cutting up fruit to buttering crackers or toast. I will supervise the children at snack time to ensure that the children all get the same amount of snack and to make sure they have a drink, even if they don’t want snack.
I would help keep the setting clean by keeping the kitchen area hygienic e.g. cleaning surfaces, washing up the pots after lunch and tea. I would keep other areas of setting tidy e.g. picking up toys to help minimise accidents happening in workplace. I would hoover up the rooms once all the children have gone home also I would empty all the bins at the end of the day to keep the setting hygienic and to stop them from overflowing.
I would change babies’ nappies to help them stop getting nappy rash or becoming ill or I will change children’s clothes if they are wet or soiled. I would interact with children e.g reading them stories, helping the children make dens, build towers, singing, craft etc. I carry out circle time with the children and I would say hello to them individually and let them each talk about an object they have brought in and this is also a good time to introduce new children to everyone in the setting.
