TREASURE OF SIERRA MADRE
The movie Treasure of Sierra Madre was filmed in Mexico in 1948.   This movie is directed by John Houston it was the first Hollywood film to be primarily directed outside of the United States.   It takes place in the state of Durango and the street scenes in Tampico.   The set was very well developed it was hard to believe that it all is taken place outside of the United States so long ago.   Humphrey Bogart played a down on his luck drifter looking for a big break named Dobbs.   Dobbs had an uneasiness about him he had some serious trust issues.   Tim Holt played Curtin who was in the same boat as Dobbs they meet after being shafted by a local con artist.   The relationship of Dobbs and Curtin can be understood in today’s society forced into a friendship because of their bad luck.   They find an outside source of hope in an old man played by Walter Houston named Howard.   As they embark on their new endeavor they are warned and so eager to make it in life they pay little attention to the warnings.   The men are then joined by a stranger named James Cody who gets them to believe he is only trying to help them gain more riches. When Cody joins the others turn the men against him they plan to shoot him while he sleeps.   Then they are forced to need him once they get in a gun fight with local bandits.   Their costumes did not change much threw out the movie they portrayed the role of a gold miners and hardworking lower class worker.   The bandits on the other hand simply searching only for weapons, bullets, and not for food was quite interesting.   The bandit’s dialect of broken English was hilarious.   The actors in this film played there parts well, very believable.   This is a movie that keeps you wondering when the next bad thing or were their next battle with bad luck would come from.   All the men had their own reasoning for searching for riches but in reality there greed to keep digging is what turned out to be there downfall.   The greed for the...
