Software applications and information systems work hand in hand in helping to build and manage a successful business or corporation. Every department within an organization uses some kind of software application to help manage the department’s day -to- day activities. Whether it is proprietary software to address the department’s unique needs or software that is purchased off the shelf from a vender, which is common for many departments such as accounting, human resources or finance. In the proceeding paragraphs I will discuss three organizational departments, accounting, human resources and marketing and the software applications and information systems used within these departments.
Accounting software is software that is used in the records and processing of accounting transactions. Many accounting software systems also offer distribution software and manufacturing software functions as well. There many different types of accounting software available depending on the type of business and the needs of the accounting department. Two of the more common applications used within small to medium sized business are Quick Books and Peach Tree. [pic]Quick Books is a full featured accounting program, available to be tailored to fit any growing organizations needs. Through Quick books companies can create and print reports, manage inventory and vender information, pay bills, do payroll, keep track of employee information, purchase orders, general ledgers, and accounts receivable and payable. These are only some of the basic features that are available through the Quick books software. Peach Tree is very similar to Quick books, but offers more than 125 reports and features such as in-depth inventory, time and billing, and job costing.
