Learning Outcome 1.1
Explain the issues affecting young people in relation to sexual health and risk of pregnancy, including peer pressure, consensual relationships, and readiness for sexual activity, contraception, sexually transmitted infections and pregnancy options
There are a number of issues affecting young people in relation to sexual health and risk of pregnancy some of these being:
Peer pressure- A friend or recent partner maybe telling them that it is the right thing to do and that it doesn’t mean anything if you do it, also a group of friends may have already explored in that area and they might feel singled out.
Readiness for sexual activity- The person may feel like they are ready to explore in that area but are not quite sure of the consequences of not using protection or not knowing that it may leave them worried in the future of how it might affect them.
Contraception- There are 5 main contraception choices that any girl is entitled to; these being: the pill, the implant, the injection, the coil and condom. Without the sufficient knowledge on any of these the person may end up with STDs or unwanted pregnancy.
Sexually Transmitted infections- There are different types of sexually transmitted infections some that can be treated with medication and some that will affect you all your life. The main types of sexually transmitted infections are: Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Hepatitis, Herpes, HIV, Human Papillomavirus, STDs and infertility.
Pregnancy options- There are a number of options for someone to think about when they find out they are pregnant. This could be having the correct care for the person in order to get through to pregnancy with ease, having a look into abortion if the person is not ready or there are complications surrounding it or if the person knows that they had un-safe sex to look into getting the...
