Case study

I have been working with Child A since he started school in reception.
When he arrived we were told he had Global Delay. He has since been diagnosed as having Autism and Verbal Dyspraxia.
His problems included;
Social relationships and interactions
Language and communication
Activities and Interests
Physical development

Here are just a few of the things we found he was unable to do,
answer the register
sit down properly on his own
put his hand up and ask a question
play with or along side other children
use the toilet
put his coat/shoes on
eat his lunch by himself
use the handryer in the toilet

Things we did to help him were;
show him how to play, explain what we were doing and let him do it in his own time
let him use a microphone when doing the register or circle time, so he could hear his voice more clearly
take him to the bathroom with the other children and sit him on   the toilet with his nappy on at first
1-1 work with a T A.
work in a small group with other children
used visual aids
speech therapy
worked with mum to see what he likes/dislikes
let him have his comforter (watches or clocks)
show him how to use handryer by making it fun

He can now,
go to the toilet unaided
wash and dry hands using handdryer
play with other children in a group
ask for help from children and adults
play 1-1 with other children
put his hand up in circle time
can speak and be understood without the microphone
go up and get his lunch and eat it unaided
come in,take his coat off and sit on the carpet unaided
