ASSIGNMENT TWO
SOLUTION TO QUESTION ONE
1. -One interval-ratio level variable that is (approximately ) normally distributed from the dataset GSS10SSDS is :
I. Numbers of hours worked last week (i.e. the 28th variable) in the dataset GSS10SSDS
-One variable that is not normally distributed from my computation is:
ii. Age of Respondents (i.e. the 9th variable of the GSS10SSDS dataset)
2. The appropriate measure of central tendency for
i. The number of hours worked per week :
Mean = 40.62
Mode =40.00
Media = 40.00
ii. Age of Respondents:
Mean = 49.21
Mode =29.00
Media =49.00
The appropriate measurs of variability for :
i. Number of Hours worked per week are:
Mode, and Median.
Either the variance or standard deviation can be used to measure the variability how far is the skewness of the graph from the typical or central score that the distribution tends to vary.
-If I have only one space for one in my report, I will cite standard deviation. This is because standard deviation takes care of varice and shows how far from the typical or central score that the distribution is like to vary
ii. Age of Respondents:
Mode and Media
Either the Mode, or median can be used to measure the frequency of the age of respondents or the age in the middle of the distribution.
-If I have only one space fr one in my report, I will cite the range to show the difference between the lower nad upper quartile.
The above histogram has a normal curve even though it is not perfectly normal. This is because it has a bell- curve having the Mean, Mode and Media also at the middle having 50% distribution to the left and 50% to the right. The skewness of the graph in the dataset is 1.25 which is between -1.96 and +1.96 (Z score= skewness/standard error of the skewness, I.e....
