Task 1.1.1 Read the document about the entitlement and provision for Early Years Education and write a summary.
In the document explaining the entitlement and provision for Early Years Education, taken from www.direct.gov.uk, it is explained what the government can provide for three and four year olds.
Based on a three-term school year a child that turns three qualifies for 15 hours of free nursery education per week for up to 38 weeks per year, during school term time. The full 15 hours must be used over at least 3 days, a minimum of 2 ½ hours and maximum 10 hours per day and can be shared between a maximum of 2 providers. This applies until they reach compulsory school age (the term following their 5th birthday).
The idea of this funding is to develop children’s potential and to help parents return to work.
There are a number of different types of early education setting including day nurseries, private nurseries, playgroups, primary reception classes, accredited childminders, etc.
For more information you can go to www.direct.gov.uk – preschool development and learning.
