Equality, diversity and inclusion in work with children and
young people
Intended outcomes
Upon completion of this module learners should be able to demonstrate an
understanding of the equality, diversity and inclusion policies and practices in
place for working with children and young people. They should also recognise
the importance of promoting equality and understand the impact of prejudice
and discrimination. Learners should understand what the terms participation,
equality of access, anti-discriminatory practice and inclusion mean and
how they can impact on children and young people.
Context
The Equality Act 2010 was released in October 2010 and replaces all the
existing legislation such as The Race Relations Act, Disability Act and The
Sex Discrimination Act. School support staff need to be aware of The Equality
Act 2010, what changes have been made, how this affects them, and the way
they fulfil their duties. Support staff also need to have an understanding of the
policies and procedures that their school already has in place.
This module provides a framework for the introduction of all staff to the basic
principles and approaches for promoting equality, diversity and inclusion, and
how this may impact on all relationships in school and externally.
