1.0 Background Movie

Our group chose the movie The Devil Wears Prada for this Organizational Behavior assignment. Basically the movie tells about Andrea Sachs (Andy), a young fresh new graduate who wants to be a serious writer journalist. Though Andy has no fashion background or interest she applied to work for Runway, America most prestigious fashion journal. Working as second assistant for editor-in-chief, Miranda Priestly is the only magazine job opening Andy can score. Andy learns that Miranda is a diva and very influential within magazine business. The movie tells the story of Andy’s journey and tests of patience working for the snow Queen (as cited in the movie) Miranda Priestly. Andy work hard to keep her job and sanity when working in a “pressurized” environment of Runway. The movie also sets in the United State corporate world. In this assignment we tried to identify the organizational behavior issues related to this movie. We will try to extract as many issue of the Runway organization.

2.0 Characters 2.1 Anne Hathaway as Andrea “Andy” Sachs: Andrea is an aspiring journalist fresh out of Northwestern University, who has just taken a job as an assistant to an editor of a fashion magazine. Andrea knows that if she want to make it and maybe someday become a successfully journalist, she must complete a year being an assistant. But unfortunately for Andrea that doesn’t prove an easy ride, as her boss if demanding, difficult and devil whose is Miranda Priestly is the editor-in-chief of Runway magazine and powerful woman in the fashion industry. She is feared by many and Andrea soon realizes how much power and influence that Miranda Priestly has over others. Acting as Miranda Priestly assistant proves to be a full time job and begin to interfere with Andrea personal life.
