For this assignment, I chose my usual weekday breakfast of a Mc Donald’s Sausage Mc Muffin and a Dr. Pepper; and, a light dinner which was a sandwich made from oven roasted chicken breast, lettuce, tomato and Miracle Whip on two pieces of bread, and a glass of water, all of which was purchased at a local Food City Supermarket.
It was rather difficult to determine where each of these items originated, especially the items at Mc Donald’s as their suppliers seem to be some great mystery; however, I eventually figured out most of it. The Sausage Mc Muffin was assembled from an English muffin produced by Fresh Start Bakeries, a sausage patty from North Side Food Corp., and a slice of cheese from either Kraft or some other unknown cheese supplier - this is a greatly guarded secret at Mc Donald's restaurants. Fresh Start Bakeries has plants all over the world, but my muffin most likely came from a facility located in Casa Grande, Arizona (see: Fresh Start). North Side Foods Corp., a subsidiary of Smithfield Foods, has plants in both Pennsylvania and Georgia, and my sausage patty could have come from either plant (see: North Side). As for the cheese, well, your guess is as good as mine, and, apparently, only the purchasing agent at Mc Donald's know the answer to this. Finding out where the Dr. Pepper came from proved an interested learning experience. Surprisingly, Dr. Pepper does not have a complete network of bottlers and distributors, so the drink is bottled by Dr Pepper Snapple, Coca-Cola, Pepsi, and numerous independent bottlers and distributors, which means my Dr. Pepper could have come from anywhere. An interesting tidbit: Dr. Pepper was invented by a man who live in Waco, Texas, and was first served around 1885. Back then it was known as a "waco" (see: Dr. Pepper).
Dinner was a little easier to figure as I had some packing materials to go...
