“It isn’t fair, it isn’t fair!” (Page 4) These are the final words that Mrs. Hutchinson said in Shirley Jacksons story “The Lottery.”   Mrs. Hutchinson through the course of the story is definitely one the interesting characters and shows emotion in parts of the story as well.
Mrs. Hutchinson during the story really throws her emotions around just like the rest of the crowd. Such as “you didn’t give him time enough to take any paper he wanted, I saw you it wasn’t fair.” (Page 3) Along with after making a big scene bout the paper choosing she states “I think we should start over.” (Page 4) That concludes how Mrs. Hutchinson throws her emotions.
“Pack of young fools.” Old Man Warner says after being told that the north has taken away the lottery. Old Man Warner in my mind is the most interesting character in the story due to his thought of the lottery. When told that the north isn’t doing the lottery anymore he states this, “Listening to the young folks, nothing’s good enough for them. Next thing you know, they’ll be wanting to go back and live in caves, nobody work anymore, live that way for a while. Used to be a saying for the ‘Lottery in June, corn be heavy soon.” (Page 3), as somewhat of a rebuttal to not having the lottery. But actually might have been thinking that killing someone for good crops is barbaric. Along with saying to the crowd “Seventy seventh time I been in the lottery.” (Page 3) I think that he doesn’t care about what happens to the others as long as he can brag about making it another year. That’s why I believe that Old Man Warner is the interesting character in the story.
Finally if I were to say what type of Romantic writing this is I would have to put it in the category Brooding Romantic. The reason why I chose that is because the kill some for a good season of crop, but they don’t just shoot them or hang them they decide to stone the person to death. Not only is this bad but when   the time comes to stone Mrs....
