Assalamualykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu,
Respected Judges, Teachers and fellow students today I am going to be talking about a question that has been swirling in my mind for a long time now. You know I never really had the chance to ask my parents about it, or search it up online and get it addressed. But Alhamdulillah, this speech competition has really gave me the opportunity to get this question addressed. You’re probably wondering what the question is. The question is why Allah (SWT) created prohibitions.
Now one might ask that if Allah (SWT) wanted to be worshipped why did He create things that he told us to abstain from? He should have not just made these things. You have pork for example, Allah tells us not to consume pork, he tells us not to consume alcohol. But why did he make these things in the first place. That’s a question, right? And it is not a bad question it’s a good question. But the answer obviously does not lie with everyone, and only some can explain this. So Inshallah, this is what I’ll be trying to do today.
Allah (SWT) wants to be worshipped right that is the He (AZJ) created myself, yourselves and all other creatures. Allah says in the Holy Quran “I have created mankind and jinn kind solely for one purpose, to worship me”. The worship of Allah (SWT) is divided into two things. One, to fulfill the commandments and second, to abstain from the prohibitions. A person’s spirituality is developed in a different way when they engage in good and abstain from bad. I’ll give you an example. (How many of you go to the masjid for the Fajr Prayer? Don’t raise your hands or anything just think. The Fajr salah in congregation is worth huge amounts of reward.
