What exactly is leadership and management? They mean different things depending on who you ask. To me leadership is considered a skill it is what a person is able to do that can influence a group of individuals to all come together for a common goal. Management is a considered a position and the person can manage a group of individuals to work together using team work. The Great Man Theory is considered to be “that one was a leader if one was born into the “right” family—usually a family of nobility—and possessed unique characteristics, most of which were inherited” (Grossman, 2012, p. 2). Theories have also been evolved from personal trait, situational, and contemporary: personal trait wanted to distinguish leaders from others, situational leaders can implement change to a situation when needed, and a contemporary “contemporary theories of leadership clearly recognize that effective leadership depends partly on the person of the leader, partly on the situation at hand, and partly on the qualities and maturity of the followers” (Grossman, 2012, p. 4).
The transformational leadership style is what I can mostly relate to because of the ability to give motivation to the leader and the followers and to uplift everyone and no one is more important than the other. The key to a transformational leader is the team work that it employs they instill pride in all and they offer pep talks and act as a role model to others. I encourage the people that I supervise to all meet the goal that we are there for which is the concern of the patients and their well-being. I communicate to the group what is to be done and I encourage them to ask questions and if it is anything that can be done to help them I do my best to help them and make sure they are able to get their work done.
