Task 1
Explain how Paiget’s theory affects what you do in your setting.
All imaginative play is led by the child or young person (yp), we allow them to explore and create and build on their own imaginary worlds. Our values are Fun, Opportunity and Risk Taking, I feel Paiget’s theory will have influenced this in all 3 area’s.
In Fun it is about the child learning through play and interaction.
In Opportunity it is about us giving them the chance to choose what to do, how to do it and if they can do it only stepping in when it becomes unsafe.
In Risk Taking it is about letting the child take risks and finding out about what they can and cannot do for themselves, allowing them to explore their surrounding without being over protective, knowing that minor cuts and scrapes are acceptable if monitored accordingly. It is about also making sure that something that would normally be too risky can be brought within the acceptable range.
Task 2
Explain how Vygotsky’s theory affects what you do in your setting.
Vygotsky’s theory says that children’s development is affected in a positive way through interactions with other yp of different abilities.
At YPAT we let yp play and participate in different activities with different groups. The staff also interact with the yp helping them learn and push them to try different activities that they may not of tried before. For example if a child is in a wheelchair but is still able to hold a ball and plays in a group with someone more able. The child in the wheelchair is likely to let the staff push them. However, the staff could instead help them by encourage them to do it themselves, helping when the child is stuck or struggling.
Task 3
Explain how Pavlov’s theory influences your current practice.
At YPAT we try to stick to routines for meal times and personal care as it helps our yp to continue on their base line behaviours, this is more prominent on Thursdays when our yp...
