1.1 Describe the duties and responsibilities of own work role.
My job title is Residential Child Care Officer, this means that I am responsible for supervising the shift in the day to day running of the children’s centre. I am responsible for the three staff and three children which are present on my shift. It is also my duty to carry out personal care, administer any medication that is needed, prepare healthy meals, organise activities, day trips, outings etc. I also carry out sleep in duties to support the night staff.
My duties also include care planning and risk assessment, attending educational reviews which requires me to visit the school that the children attend to do some observations once a year. I am also a key worker for 6 children which includes updating manual handling plans, behaviour plans and individual programmes every six months. I arrange visits from the occupational therapists if and when it’s necessary. I am also responsible for ensuring that the social workers carry out statutory visits and I have to chase up and ensure that the stat reports are done.
1.2 Explain expectations about own work role as expressed in relevant standards.
To make sure that I work within the relevant standards set out for social care workers I received an induction training course when I first joined the centre, which provided specialised training relating to my job role. I receive regular supervision with my line manager, where I can discuss any problems, and get support. I can also request training, and my manager can suggest things which she thinks would be beneficial to me. She also highlights areas where she thinks I would benefit from further training.
