use the organisations HR system to record all accident / incident / violence information & data, this is the formulated onto an excel spreadsheet in order to translate all the information into a form where we can filter and manipulate the data so it can be transposed onto reports for my team, my Managers and Executive Management. It has details such as the time, date, location of an incident, accident type, injury, the team member reporting incident, the area it occurred, a summary of incident, any remedial actions and date closed out, the incident causation and location if applicable. I then use this information for charts and graphs to show trends and accident / incident stats. Typically I analyse the data to highlight any trends, such as incident occurring at certain times or in certain areas to see if there are any patterns or areas of concern. These graphs are used in reports to Executive Management, the general workforce and the Unions representatives I find it the most useful and direct way of getting important accident information across. Managers and Staff can look at these graphs and see exactly what I am trying to tell them, rather than them reading through lots of wordy information.
It is also a very effective for benchmarking against our previous years information or previous half year, I can compare and contrast the statistics and data. We can also compare from previous years data to ensure we are dealing with epidemiological issues.
