UNIT 502 – PROMOTE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
WHAT IS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Professional development refers to a person’s skills and knowledge.   Professional development facilitates learning opportunities ranging from college degrees to formal coursework, conferences and informal learning opportunities.   There are a variety of approaches to professional development including consultation, coaching, mentoring, reflective supervision and technical assistance.                         Professional development engages a range of people, interests and approaches to share a common purpose to enhance their ability to do their work.                                                                                         Professional development is supporting people in their workplace to understand more about the environment in which they work, the job they do and how they could improve to do it better.   Professional development is an ongoing process that should be reviewed regularly.                           Professional development can provide a means whereby we can keep up to date with changes, broaden our skills and knowledge which helps us to be more effective in our work.                               Professional development can help a person to achieve personal ambition and enhance their career prospects.   It can help meet targets set by workforce performance or provide an opportunity for individuals to change their career paths.
It is important in my role to engage in continuous professional development by keeping my skills and knowledge up to date and continuously seek to improve my capabilities.   This is essential in my role and it ensures I have the skills and knowledge needed to ensure I can support my service users, visitors and employees receive the best care and working environment in line with legislation and guidelines and also in line with organisational policies and procedures....
