1.1 Explain models of practice that underpin equality, diversity and inclusion in own area of responsibility
It is important as a manager that I acknowledge and respect the needs of both staff and residents. By adapting to their needs and altering my style to suit. Being aware of inequality will involve me in understanding that residents and staff have the right to involved and participate in the running of the home without feeling discriminated on the grounds of their disabilities, gender, age and race etc. To help remove barriers between staff, it is useful for them to work together as a team. Team learning, is a good approach to include all individuals by giving them the opportunity to see that all staff and residents, irrespective of their position or disabilities can contribute to the home. “Entitlement, equality, inclusivity, diversity and differentiation. Basically, all of these are about acknowledging and respecting the individual needs of all individuals, helping and supporting where appropriate” Equality is about all individuals having the same rights and opportunities to participate regardless of gender, race, ethnic origin, religion, disability, sexual orientation or age. Diversity is about valuing the differences that people have and appreciating their individual characteristics. It is important as a manager of a care home that I find ways to promote inclusion, and through differentiation by using different approaches and resources, I have found ways to meet the needs of individuals within the home. Diversity values the differences in people whether that relates to gender, race, age, disability or any other individual characteristics they may have.
