It has become more important over the years to have a college education as many of the jobs today require it. College education is important to me because it will improve my marketable skills, improve my financial situation and make me more empowered. Although there are many more reasons, those stated are the driving force for my need for a college education.
Having marketable skills is crucial especially with a college education. Many opportunities are afforded to persons that otherwise may not be easily available. One’s marketability determines the type of job a person will have and the opportunities for upward mobility in their chosen field of study. College educations will also help if you decide to become an entrepreneur or promotion in the workplace.
It is not easy for High School graduates to deal with individual life situation like reading a legal document, being able to invest and save money or even planning for retirement. Usually, someone is paid to do these things for them. It is very empowering with a college education in being able to decipher most of the information yourself. William J Clinton says, ‘It turns out that advancing equal opportunity and economic empowerment is both morally right and good economics, because discrimination, poverty and ignorance restrict growth, while investments in education, infrastructure and scientific and technological research increase it, creating more good jobs and new wealth for all of us.’
With the economy as it is today, the need for a college education is even greater. It is no longer the status quo just to be a high school graduate and get a decent job. With the increase in cost of living, having a college education will enable you to meet your financial obligations as wells as to help you to prepare better for retirement.
