WITH REFERENCE TO ANY SPECIFIC ORGANIZATION OF YOUR CHOICE, DISCUSS THE CONCEPT OF SYSTEMS DEVELOPMENT.

DEFINITION OF A SYSTEM

According to Adefiranye James A. Renew in his book, The Automated Accounting System is defined as ‘a set of objects with the relationship between the objects and their attributes. It can also be defined as an organized grouping of men, methods, machines and materials to accomplish an objective or some objectives in accordance with a stated plan.

Core Assumptions and Features of a system
System theory has to do with the interactive modes that exist between units in an organization.   A system can be said to consist of four things. The first is units – the parts, elements, or variables within the system. These may be physical or abstract or both, depending on the nature of the system. Second, a system consists of attributes – the qualities or properties of the system and its units. Third, a system had internal relationships among its units. Fourth, systems exist in an environment. A system, then, is a set of things that affect one another within an environment and form a larger pattern that is different from any of the parts. Fundamentally all systems have an input- output procedure which emphasizes its openness/closeness. A closed system does not interact with its environment. It does not take in information and therefore is likely to die out. An open system receives information, which it uses to interact dynamically with its environment. Openness increases its likelihood to survive and prosper.

Again it is interacts as a whole body and its various units are interdependent on each other. There exists a chain of influence, hierarchy, and subsystems, goals, inputs/outputs, the need for balance, change and adaptability. Communication in this perspective can be seen as an integrated process – not as an isolated event.
