Introduction:
Hello, and welcome to my factsheet all about World War 2! We will be focusing on these main subjects vis-à-vis World War 2: How it started, life as a child during the war and The Diary of Anne Frank, an extraordinary young Jewish girl living in the Second World War. We will start on how World War 2 began, and Germany’s invasions on some countries, such as Czechoslovakia (which is now Czech Republic and Slovakia) and Poland. We shall begin!
What was World War 2?
World War 2 began in 1939 when Germany invaded other European countries. By its end in 1945, the war had involved nearly every part of the world. Britain was on one side with France, the United States of America and the Soviet Union. They were called the Allies. China, India and many other countries were involved too. Germany was on the other side with Japan, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and Italy, the Axis Powers.
How did it start?
World War Two in Europe began on 3rd September 1939, when the Prime Minister of Britain, Neville Chamberlain, declared war on Germany. It involved many of the world's countries. The Second World War was started by Germany in an unprovoked attack on Poland. The leader of the German army was Adolf Hitler, a man with a long moustache. He hated Jews and wanted them to be sent to horrible, torturous concentration camps to die. But we will get onto that soon.
Why did World War 2 happen?
In 1933 Adolf Hitler became the leader of Germany. He quickly began to build up the German army and in 1935 started to seize land from other countries. In early 1939 Germany invaded a country called Czechoslovakia. Britain and France warned Germany that any further invasions would be opposed. On 1 September 1939, Germany invaded Poland. Two days later, Britain and France declared war on Germany.
