Worldwide Obesity Problems
We chew it, we bit it, we decide to grab it, and no one else makes us fat except for us. “Before most children can speak, they can recognize McDonald’s.” This embarrassing truth proves who is to blame for the fast food obesity crisis. People like to blame others than themselves. However, the real people to blame are the parents. The parents allow their children to eat the greasy artificial food, even though they know it is bad for them. In his article “The Battle against Fast Food Begins at Home” Daniel Wientraub states, “Parents are to blame if they let their kids eat unhealthy foods and sit in front of the television.”The parents have control and they are the ones who set the example for their children in the home. They are the ones who have the chance to change the future of Americans’ diets.
In the home, parents are the ones who feed the children. If they continuously feed their children a Big Mac and french fries, their children are going to continuously want a Big Mac and french fries. It is the parents’ responsibility to teach children good eating habits. In the article “Don’t Blame the Eater”, David Zinczenko states, “Before 1994, diabetes in children was generally caused by a genetic disorder -- only about 5 percent of childhood cases were obesity related or Type 2 diabetes.”Then as it continues “Today, according to National Institutes of Health, Type 2 diabetes accounts for at least 30 percent of all new childhood cases of diabetes in this country.” There are so many other meal options, but the parents are not taking that extra step. All parents want their child to grow up healthy and fast food is just making their dream crash and burn.
